About Us

Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer was formed in June 2000 after discussion between Mrs Susan Mac Master and Mrs Veronica Kennedy. Mrs Mac Master had been raising funds for Mr David England (Breast Surgeon) at The Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital in Birmingham for the purchase of equipment for some two years prior to the setting up of Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.

It was felt after a meeting with Liz Hopkins (Breast Care Nurse) and Mr David England we could do so much to assist in creating one of the best centre of excellence at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for treating Breast Cancer. A Board of Trustees was set up that of Mr David England BSc MD FRCS as Chairman, Julie Kirkbride MP Vice Chairman. It was felt that a Sub Committee was required to organise the events etc and this was established in December 2000 by the appointment of local housewives who kindly donate their time voluntary.

On the 17th October 2001, Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer was finally registered under no. 1088943 and as from that date is to be known as Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer Charitable Trust. A decision was reached to run the charity in memory of Carole Knaggs a friend of Veronica’s and Susan’s who gave so much hope to other cancer sufferers and never once complained regarding her own failing health.
